I served as the project coordinator for the 2017 King County Trans Resource and Referral Guide at the Coalition Ending Gender-Based Violence. Transgender and gender non-conforming communities experience disproportionate levels of poverty, homelessness, violence, and unemployment in the US. The Guide serves as a comprehensive resource for health, HIV/AIDS, mental health, disability, housing resources, legal rights, and more for trans individuals and their families in King County.
My role involved recruiting and facilitating a group of diverse trans community leaders to provide input on this invaluable resource, and coordinating the resource collection, design (print and web), Spanish translation, and local distribution. Group members come with varied class backgrounds, racial identities, ages, and accessibility needs. Recognizing those at the intersections of multiple oppressions, we centered the needs of people of color and people living with disabilities by holding additional work groups and creating expanded external resources.
This summer, I unveiled the Guide at Trans Pride Seattle and conducted trainings with county providers on how to use the Guide. The website and booklet are available in English and Spanish.
